Cruising

Cruising is a great way to see some of South Australia’s most beautiful natural areas by sea including Adelaide, Kangaroo Island, Limestone Coast, Fleurieu Peninsula and Eyre Peninsula. International and domestic cruises berth in South Australia on a range of vessels, from smaller boutique ships to mega-liners. Both domestic and international cruise ships dock at Port Adelaide passenger terminal, 21 kilometres (13 miles) from the heart of the city and Port Lincoln on the Eyre Peninsula. There are anchorages at Penneshaw on Kangaroo Island and Robe on the Limestone Coast.

Each cruise ship offers a range of half or full-day shore excursions including tours of world class wine regions - Barossa, McLaren Vale, Clare Valley, and the Adelaide Hills. The Outer Harbor train station is 150 metres from the terminal providing easy access to the city. Meet and Greet volunteers provide sightseeing information at each port of call.

One of the most popular ways to relax on the River is to hire a houseboat and travel the reaches of the Murray or moor on the riverbank. Houseboat holidays offer beautiful scenery, nature walks in conservation parks and visits to historic towns.

PS Murray Princess is Australia's largest paddle-wheeler offering regular three, four and seven-night cruises. The Princess has 60 ensuite cabins, two spas and saunas, bars, lounges, a dining saloon, gift shop and library.

For a special encounter with nature, Proud Mary Cruises offers two, three or five-night cruises, all with a strong ecotourism flavour.

A combination of river cruising and historic pub accommodation is offered on the Spirit of the Murray for its "Murray River Run". Spirit of the Murray travels 560 kilometres from Wellington to Border Cliffs. Options range from 4 to 8 days.
